Environmental Engineer Summer Intern

Valor Water is seeking an environmental engineer intern with demonstrated experience in water, utilities, or other cleantech sectors. The intern will research and mine technical documents and the existing water industry literature to finely calibrate Valor Water’s existing suite of data science applications with existing technical specifications.  The environmental engineer internship will utilize skills in industry research, data science, and code development to work with a team on product refinement and development.  This position is ideal for problem solvers who enjoy challenges of transforming a concept into an analytic product. Demonstrated alignment with Valor Water’s core mission of developing tools to advance the efficient, safe, and affordable provision of water to communities is highly valued.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities are researching and applying existing utility industry benchmarks and technical thresholds into Valor’s current data science applications.

Creating robust documentation from the literature and other technical sources

Become expert in leveraging the full breadth of industry sources and analytic resources and be able to solve difficult, non-routine problems

Qualifications

Undergraduate or graduate student in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or related field. At least a 3rd year college student 

Experience with water industry technical documentation (i.e. pipes, flow, leaks, hydraulics) 

Familiarity with Python and R

Demonstrated research and report writing skills

Advanced statistical skills (time series regression, panel data regression)

Knowledge of water utilities or related sector a plus

Proven ability to meet deadlines

Effective communication skills

Basic timeline for internship is: Mid June though mid August. Interns will work in Valor Water’s San Francisco, CA offices.

$3,000 / month stipend

Back-end Software Engineer Intern

Valor Water Analytics seeks a talented software engineer intern to join its development team.  You will work side-by-side with our full-time engineers to extend the capabilities of our industry leading analytics platform.  You will learn software industry best practices, and your code will be deployed to our production SaaS environment where it will be used by a growing list of water utilities across North America.  You will be involved in designing, coding, testing, and integrating your work into our product portfolio.

Requirements:

2+ years software development

Python or Ruby

Experience with a web application framework (Rails, Django, etc.) is a plus

Experience with Azure or AWS is a plus

Proven ability to meet deadlines

Effective communication skills

Basic timeline for internship is: Mid June though mid August. Interns will work in Valor Water’s San Francisco, CA offices.

$4,000 / month stipend

Front-end Software Engineer Intern

Data Nerd

Valor Water Analytics seeks a highly enlightened human who thinks in binary.  You will become deeply ingrained in the fascinating world of water utility data, helping to unlock the hidden secrets that shroud the delivery of a precious resource.  You will understand how large scale utilities track system usage and how to optimize operational efficiency.  You will work side-by-side with our talented team of software industry professionals.  As a result of your work, chaos will give way to order.

Requirements:

1 year of coding or scripting

Familiarity with database architecture

Detail-oriented

Interested in automated systems

Proven ability to meet deadlines

Effective communication skills

Public Relations & Multi Media Communicator Internship

The Public Relations & Multi Media Communicator will be responsible for taking Valor Water Analytics’ existing portfolio of research and results and creating a diverse set of written and multi-media pieces on these topics.  Additional responsibilities include pitching stories to media outlets, and developing suite of communications materials for the company. 

This is a part-time contract position (24 hours per week) beginning as soon as possible with potential for continued employment. Valor Water Analytics offices are in the Flood Building in downtown San Francisco, Ca.

Preferred qualifications

Public relations, media and/or journalism skills with ability to distill complex topics in media ready messages and tangible written and multimedia segments. Assignments include but are not limited to publications, white papers, publicity pieces, and press releases. Ability to use phone, email and social media to communicate with media outlets.

·        English, communications, or journalism degree (in progress ok) or comparable experience

·        Strong copy editing skills

·        Media and public relations skills

·        Multimedia skills including: wordpress, powerpoint, video, Adobe Design suite, social media platforms

·        Passion for clean technology

·        Proven ability to meet deadlines

Compensation based on experience.
